Upper School teachers must be able to teach a wide range of courses within their content-area of expertise to students in grades 9-12. The ideal candidate is a curious, enthusiastic leader who models lifelong learning, enjoys working with high school-aged students, is comfortable teaching multiple levels of high school history and social sciences (including, but not limited to, World History, Human Geography, Civics, Sociology, Psychology, and/or Business) and has a strong interest in a project-based interdisciplinary curriculum.
Our High School history curriculum begins with Early World History & Human Geography in grade 9 and Modern World History & Civics in grade 10. A required year of United States history, along with AP courses and seminar electives, round out the offerings. Elective courses could include AP Comparative Government, Comparative Religions, Gender Studies, Ecology & the Humanities, Criminal Law, Constitutional Law, Business and Personal Finance, Economics, Design Thinking & Entrepreneurship, AP Psychology, Sociology. The focus in all courses includes reading, writing, critical thinking, discussion, depth of inquiry, and culturally responsive teaching.
