Academic Support Learning Specialist

St. David's School is currently seeking an Academic Support Learning Specialist for the 2025-26 school year. This position will work directly with students with identified learning differences in the Academic Support Program. The duties include planning for individual student sessions based on documented needs, communicating with teachers and parents on a regular basis, and remaining current on various learning strategies. When needed, the Learning Specialist will help foster a greater understanding about learning differences within the school community. 


OVERVIEW OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provide individual intervention for up to 11 students, within any grade with diagnosed learning challenges;
  2. Complete weekly lesson plans tailored to the unique needs of each student;
  3. Communicate with parents of students receiving service regularly by email or phone;
  4. Coordinate parent/teacher meetings, as needed, for students who are struggling;
  5. Create Program Plans, itemizing goals and objectives for all students, and produce a detailed, report containing the progress made for each at the end of each trimester;
  6. Review course information and grade-level calendars daily;
  7. Track the performance of individual students by maintaining regular contact with the studentsĂ­ teachers and by reviewing test scores and grades;
  8. Remain current on learning strategies in the areas of reading, writing, mathematics, and study strategies and attend professional development seminars;
  9. Attend weekly department, division, and grade-level meetings;
  10. Perform other tasks as assigned by the Academic Support Program Coordinator.


SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
Required:

  1. Bachelors degree in Education (or similar field) with at least three years as a classroom teacher;
  2. Experience working with small groups or one-on-one with students;
  3. Extensive knowledge of learning differences and strategies;
  4. Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred:

  1. Experience working with students that have learning challenges;
  2. Masters degree in an education-related field (ideally in special education);
  3. Certification in the Wilson or Orton Gillingham Reading programs;
  4. Knowledge of state and national testing accommodations;
  5. Experience creating and presenting professional development to faculty.
