Lower School Spanish Teacher

Durham Academy is accepting applications for a Lower School Spanish teacher to begin August 1, 2025 until June 5, 2026. The Lower School serves approximately 300 students in grades 1-4 and 216 students in gr. 2-4. All candidates must hold a bachelor’s degree with a master's degree in education or Spanish preferred. This position is a one-year appointment. 

 

Our ideal candidate is an experienced Spanish speaker and educator with the following qualities:

  • Demonstrates a student-centered approach to teaching with the ability to differentiate instruction for a range of learners and learning styles 

  • Is flexible and innovative, with an infectious enthusiasm for teaching global languages and helping children solve real-world problems

  • Is eager to build supportive relationships with students in and beyond the classroom

  • Has a command of instructional best practices

  • Is willing to work positively and collaboratively on curriculum development and alignment, both within and across departments and divisions 

  • Possesses a proven track record of creating equitable and inclusive curriculum and learning environments

  • Routinely reflects on their lessons, seeks feedback and has a desire to continually grow their teaching practices

  • Uses technology thoughtfully and creatively to enhance teaching and learning

  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

 

Additionally, preference will be given to candidates with: 

  • Three years of teaching experience on the elementary level

  • The ability to build rapport with the families in the Lower School and utilize family members as volunteers in the Spanish classroom when appropriate
