Position Summary
Kerr-Vance Academy seeks an Academic Support Specialist for the 2024-2025 school year beginning October 15, 2024. The Academic Support Specialist will serve as a member of the Academic Support Team, applying their specialized knowledge and skills in reading and math interventions.The ideal candidate will be a talented, energetic professional who will inspire young students with diverse learning needs and meet these needs using multiple modalities and an understanding of their individual strengths and weaknesses.

Qualifications

  • Minimum three-to-five years teaching experience in reading and math within grades  K-6; additional secondary school experience is a plus
  • Previous experience in a private/independent school environment and/or Special Education is a plus
  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Education or a related field; Master’s degree in Education or related field is a plus
  • Extensive knowledge of evidence-based practices in Reading and Mathematics
  • Sufficient and precise in data preparation and management such that limited supervision or review is required to verify data

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:     

  • Develop and sustain positive and supportive relationships with students and their families
  • Provide instruction for designated children with accommodations, intervention plans, or those who meet criteria for additional support or enrichment based on the guidelines set by the Academic Support Team
  • Instruct differentiated small group literacy and math lessons through pull-out and push-in service models
  • Deliver interventions in reading and/or math based on changes in school-wide needs, as determined by data-based trends and administrative direction
  • Maintain accurate records of students receiving services
  • Assist teachers by identifying students’ needs, providing support through in-house assessments, observation, implementation, interventions, and enrichment
  • Coach/support staff members on the use and methods of data collection
  • Support teachers to increase differentiation for students with learning differences
  • Create positive relationships with parents and colleagues through professional communication, scheduling conferences, and educating parents.
  • Collaborate with other members of the academic support team to provide professional development and learning opportunities for School faculty and staff
  • Assist in standardized testing and implementation of accommodations
  • Stay abreast of trends, research, and best practices for instruction
  • Other duties as assigned by the Head of School
