Duke School, a PS-8th grade Independent School, is looking for an experienced Director of Safety to ensure a safe and secure environment for our school community. The successful candidate will develop and implement safety protocols, lead emergency response efforts, and collaborate with local law enforcement. The role involves regular safety assessments, training for staff and students, and maintaining compliance with safety regulations. The ideal candidate will have a background in law enforcement or security management, strong leadership skills, and excellent communication and collaboration abilities as well as an understanding and commitment to working within a diverse community.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Review, develop, and implement campus-wide safety and security programs.
  • Create and report on safety strategies to the Leadership Team and Board of Trustees.
  • Conduct safety training for employees and students.
  • Oversee emergency response procedures and systems.
  • Work with faculty and staff to continually improve safety measures.
  • Partner with IT and Facilities to establish building security protocols.
  • Manage safety and security budgets.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement on critical incident responses.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Five years of experience in safety and security programs, with three years in a supervisory role.
  • Certification in CPR, First Aid, Basic Life Support, and First Responder (or obtain within six months).
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of safety protocols, emergency management, and law enforcement.
  • Ability to work under varied conditions and respond to emergencies outside normal hours.
