There is an opening for a full time Middle and Upper School Counselor at Fayetteville Academy. This position starts in August for the 2024-2025 academic year.

Position Expectations:

This position includes working closely with students and their families, the Director of Student Support Services, and the Middle and Upper School Division Directors. Specific duties include:

  • Design and implementation of a counseling program for individual students, small groups, and classrooms addressing areas of academic, career, and social/emotional development areas

  • Design and oversee the Middle and Upper School Advisory program  

  • Respond to student, families, and faculty needs identifying measurable goals and objectives, providing advice, guidance, and resources, as needed

  • Develop necessary policies and initiatives for students support services and programs 

  • Review incoming records, identify at risk students 

  • Partner with the Director of Student Support Services to coordinate student, staff, and parent training/informational programs to address student needs in the areas of social/emotional development and student safety

  • Work closely with Directors of Student Support Services and College Counseling to administer assessments and accommodations

  • Maintenance of professional certifications and licenses, as well as continued development on current and trending topics is expected

  • Serve as faculty club sponsor and facilitate relevant student life opportunities 

  • Serve as the School Liaison for:

    • Summer Ventures Science and Math program

    • HOBY

    • Revolution Prep

  • Test Coordinator

    • Oversee and facilitate the application of standardized tests for the Middle and Upper School (~175 students in grades 6-12). These include serving as the school’s Test Coordinator, which coordinates all standardized test pre-administration sessions, and facilitates Educational Record Bureau Comprehensive Testing Program, Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test (PSAT), PSAT 10, National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (NMSQT), American College Testing (ACT), PreACT, and College Board Advanced Placement Exams. The position also includes working closely with the Admissions Director in coordination of school entrance exams

Qualifications

Fayetteville Academy actively seeks candidates who participate in the life of the school and possess strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively with students, parents, faculty, and administration.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s ( master’s preferred) degree in school counseling and be eligible to be a licensed Professional School Counselor in North Carolina with at least three to five years of experience in education. Effective communication with students, parents, and colleagues is essential, with attention to detail, organization, and the ability to maintain confidentiality are critical to the success of this position. Problem solving, flexibility, critical thinking skills, strong emotional intelligence,  a sense of humor, and enthusiasm, are desirable aspects of a successful candidate. This position works with students in grades 6 through 12. This Test Coordinator role requires adhering to the procedures and guidelines of the College Board and other testing agencies, particularly as it relates to conflict of interest in the role of coordinator or proctor.
